January 14, 2009 - A Fire Under My Butt

So tomorrow I go over the results of my MRI with my doc. I cannot wait for that. I want a solution for the pain. Work hard. Rest. Do physical therapy. Whatever. Just give me a solution.

Yesterday was a significant day for me. Remember when I said that my cancer diagnosis caused me to get serious about doing what I love? Well..... the cancer diagnosis put a fire under my butt. I actually got a business license for doing my photography. I now officially own Snow Productions!!! I decided that I can build databases, web-sites, publish books, do photography, or do similar work under one business umbrella.

I just want to be prepared should there ever be a day when my company says they no longer need my services. I love my job, so I'm hoping they don't decide to let me go anytime soon!!!

More tomorrow after we review my MRI results with the doc.

One more thing... in this blog I stress over and over again about doing your self-checks every month (because some cancers are very agressive - like mine). I was just informed about another type of breast cancer that can't be detected via a mammogram and it doesn't cause a lump. Some doctors and breast care centers haven't even heard of it. It's called Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC), and the symptoms are typically a spot that looks like a bug bite and possibly an inverted nipple. It's a silent killer. Diagnosis and Treatment

Sandy, 43, diagnosed with Stage I, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC) - (breast cancer) on March 6, 2008.
Treatment plan:
. Lumpectomy (Completed - 3/18/08);
. Chemotherapy (8 of 8 Completed - 4/21/08 thru 7/28/08);
. Radiation (33 of 33 Completed - 8/27/08 thru 10/13/08);
. Freedom - I thought freedom would be achieved on 10/13/08, but I'm still extremely fatigued.

95 to 98% cure rate after treatment plan is complete!

March 18 2008 surgery pathology results:
. No lymph node involvement (good).
. Triple Negative: Her-2 Neu, a gene, was low; Both hormone receptors (progesterone and estrogen) were negative, so they cannot treat me with hormone therapy (not good).
. Tumor size was 1.8 cm (not good). Under 1 cm considered good. Still at Stage I, though.
. Proliferation rate was extremely high (not good and most worrisome factor). Cells divide about every 40 days.
